Mr. Prunty’s practice involves general litigation in state and federal courts at the trial and appellate levels, as well as West Virginia Workers’ Compensation, and Federal Black Lung.

  • Experienced in handling a variety of complex litigation matters including products liability; toxic torts (e.g., asbestos, silica, coal, lead, chlorine, formaldehyde and isocyante exposures); personal injury; occupational injury & disease (including deliberate intent litigation); insurance subrogation; and class actions.
  • Twenty-five years experience defending West Virginia workers' compensation claims (including Occupational Pneumoconiosis claims).
  • Broad appellate experience before state and federal administrative agencies and courts, including the United States Supreme Court.
  • More than twenty-five years experience delivering presentations to clients and professional education programs; and ten years experience as an instructor of legal research and writing at the University of Charleston.
  • Former Special Assistant Corporation Counsel, New York City Law Department.
  • Former member of Jackson Kelly PLLC, where he practiced law for twenty-two years; served as administrative manager of the Jackson Kelly Federal Black Lung and West Virginia Occupational Pneumoconiosis practice groups; and served on the firm's Executive Committee.
  • 1990 Recipient of the West Virginia Law Review Alumnus of the Year Award.
  • Former Treasurer of West Virginia State Democrat Executive Committee; former member of Kanawha County Democrat Executive Committee; West Virginia State Counsel for President Clinton's 1992 and 1996 campaigns; and 1990 Democrat nominee for the West Virginia House of Delegates from Kanawha County.
