Robinson & McElwee PLLC Site Structure and Organization

The structure of this web site is intended to make it easy for a visitor to find needed information. We welcome comments and suggestions for improvement that should be addressed to postmaster@ramlaw.com.

Traditionally, law firms are organized into departments, and we are no exception. For administrative purposes, we have five departments: Business Law, Energy & Environment, Government Relations, Labor & Employment, and Litigation. It is our view, however, that someone seeking legal services will find the department structure less useful than two alternatives, which are the focus of this site:

The Industries pages list some of the major types of business we routinely serve in our practice of law. If you seek general representation for your business and do not presently have a pressing issue, this would be a good place to explore our firm’s capabilities. We have tried to illustrate some of the services that we provide and which are typically useful in the listed industries. Please bear in mind that these are generalized examples – to evaluate your own needs and our ability to respond to them requires specific conversation with our attorneys.

If you find an Industry page, which appears representative of your needs or interests, please be in touch with one of the attorneys listed on that page. We look forward to getting to know you and working with you to determine if we should establish a working relationship.

While an Industry page covers a lot of types of law, by contrast a Practice Area page is more focused.

A Practice Area is more likely to catch your attention if you have a specific legal issue in mind.

Practice Areas are constantly being refined within the firm and on the web site. You will find that some are more structured than others. Alternative Dispute Resolution, for example (otherwise known as Arbitration or Mediation), has a Practice Area Chair who is the point of contact. All of the lawyers listed have been trained by the West Virginia State Bar Association. Other Practice Areas simply list the participating attorneys; we encourage you to refer to their individual qualifications as you select the one to contact.

The “Find a Lawyer” search capability of our site will help you analyze our capabilities. You can look for lawyers in particular Practice Areas, as well as those who attended specific law schools. You can identify those working from each of our three offices.

Please note we have listed a number of representative clients – organizations who have consented to be identified by us as entities for which we have worked. You may see a listing there that parallels your own business interests.

There are numerous ways to acquaint yourself with the extensive capabilities of Robinson & McElwee PLLC. We recognize that a web site is a convenience, a means of helping you make a quick determination of the person to whom you need to talk. The practice of law is, always has been and always will be, about the person-to-person relationship between client and attorneys. Please do not hesitate to be in touch by telephone, e-mail, or letter so that we can establish that relationship.

We would be remiss if we did not remind you that attorneys are bound by a Code of Professional Conduct that covers the establishment of an attorney-client relationship. Prior to undertaking any work for a prospective client or any significant new work for an existing client, we must establish that no conflict exists with another present or former client or matter. Accordingly, please do not send us any documents or other supporting material until you and we have signed a formal Letter of Engagement that spells out the issues and work to be performed.
