Two attorneys have recently joined Robinson & McElwee PLLC and have been admitted to the West Virginia bar. Robinson & McElwee is excited to welcome these two new associates, Matthew Gilliam and Elizabeth Turgeon, to the firm’s Charleston office.
Mr. Gilliam’s legal experience includes work as a legal associate with a policy think tank in Washington, D.C., work in the U.S. Department of Justice, research for a Judge sitting on the United States Court of Federal Claims, and clerkships with various law firms, including an internship in Lima, Peru where he was exposed to regulatory law and international commercial arbitration. As a legal associate for a policy advocacy organization, he co-authored several U.S. Supreme Court amicus briefs and researched various issues of criminal law. Before embarking on his legal career, Mr. Gilliam worked for an oil company as a territory manager in Louisiana, Mississippi, Texas, Alabama, and Florida. Mr. Gilliam is admitted to practice in New York and West Virginia. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science and Spanish from Transylvania University, a Master of Arts degree in United States studies from the University of London, and his law degree from Georgetown University, in 2011. Mr. Gilliam will be practicing in the firm’s business and corporate group.
Ms. Turgeon joined the firm in fall 2013 after moving from North Carolina. She graduated with honors and distinction from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in May 2010, receiving her Bachelor of Arts degree in English with a double-minor in Environmental Studies and Music. In May 2013, Ms. Turgeon received her law degree from the University of North Carolina School of Law, where she served as Print Publication Editor for Volume 14 of the North Carolina Journal of Law & Technology and wrote the problem for the 36th Annual J. Braxton Craven, Jr. Memorial Moot Court Competition. Additionally, she competed on the Holderness Moot Court Environmental Negotiations Team, served on the board of the Environmental Law Project, volunteered over 100 hours of pro bono service, and was selected as a national member of the Order of Barristers. Ms. Turgeon will practice in the firm’s growing energy and environment group.
Robinson & McElwee’s practice is multifaceted and includes corporate law, environmental law, litigation, natural resources law, labor and employment law, utility law, bankruptcy, commercial real estate development, state and local taxation, estate planning and administration, commercial transactions and government relations.
